A 31-year-old man from Fort Washington, Maryland will be sentenced on Feb. 10 for a murder that he allegedly committed. The presiding judge has the ability to send him away for a maximum of two life sentences. This is because he was convicted of robbery with a deadly weapon, first-degree burglary, use of a handgun in commission of a crime of violence and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
Prosecutors believe the 31-year-old and another person shot and killed a man on Dec. 1, 2009 in an apartment complex parking lot in Temple Hills, Maryland. Supposedly, the duo stole the man's apartment keys and used them to enter his home located in Camp Springs, Maryland. Surveillance footage showed the convicted man and the deceased man together in a liquor store before the man died.
Prince George's County police found the man's body after the incident occurred.
A 32-year-old Washington, D.C. man who was charged with burglary and first-degree murder was the supposed accomplice. His charges were later dropped because there was not enough evidence to have him convicted. According to the authorities, the 31-year-old and the 32-year-old stole clothing and electronics from the deceased man's apartment.
Surveillance footage at the apartment complex of the murder victim showed a white Mercedes arriving and leaving approximately 45 minutes later. Authorities identified a license plate in the surveillance video on the Mercedes that matched the vehicle registered to the 31-year-old.
The alleged criminal may receive two consecutive life sentences and another 88 years if the judge deems it necessary.
